Marcelino delighted with unbeaten run

Marcelino hailed his Villarreal players after they extended their unbeaten run to nine games, courtesy of a 1-0 victory over Granada on Saturday.

Bruno Soriano’s sole penalty was enough to make it seven wins and two draws for the Yellow Submarine, who maintained their grip on fourth place in La Liga, having moved eight points clear of nearest challengers Sevilla.

“We bounced back with a win after two draws in a row,” the Coach said after the game.

“We went on a run of nine games without losing, winning seven of them, and we’re very satisfied.

“It’s very difficult to obtain these streaks, and we deserved to achieve them.

“We played at a good pace, sometimes a bit hastily, but I’m satisfied with our performance.

“On the other hand, our opponents warned us quickly that we needed to be alert for 90 minutes as they were able to cause us problems, but I honestly think the result is fair.

“We were more intense and very dynamic. We forced the goalkeeper to intervene on many occasions, so I think we played well.

“We’re proud to coach these players and of their efforts.

“The idea is to keep working in the same way. We must continue with this pace and attitude game by game.

“It won’t be easy, far from it. It’s all very tight.”
