Merino slams ‘damaging’ officiating

Juan Merino slammed the “totally damaging” standard of refereeing during Real Betis’ 2-1 defeat at Real Sociedad in La Liga on Saturday.

Goals from Xabi Prieto and Inigo Martinez in the first half consigned the Andalucians to their first defeat under the caretaker Coach, despite Ruben Castro having pulled one back after the restart, but the 45-year-old was more critical of Eduardo Prieto Iglesias’ performance.

“We were totally damaged [by the officiating],” he said after the game.

“It’s true that they are humans and can make mistakes, and that’s what they did.

“The referee didn’t have a good game, missing fouls, penalties … a bit of everything, but we won’t go into them.”
