Valencia beat Newcastle to Siqueira

Valencia have reportedly beaten Newcastle United to the signing of Atletico Madrid left-back Guilherme Siqueira.

According to Marca, Siqueira has agreed an 18-month deal with Valencia after passing a medical on Saturday night, although it is not yet known whether he will be joining on loan or permanently.

The 29-year-old is also expected to be present at Mestalla for Sunday’s match against Sporting Gijon.

Despite his protestations that the January transfer window is “ridiculous”, Gary Neville is understood to have sought experience to complement his young squad, specificially requesting a left-back so Jose Luis Gaya can operate further forward.

Siqueira’s arrival will also facilitate the departure of Lucas Orban, who has been linked with Newcastle – favourites to sign the Brazilian just two days ago – and Celta Vigo.
