Berizzo wants Celta balance

Eduardo Berizzo identified ‘balance’ as the key to Celta Vigo getting past Atletico Madrid in the Copa del Rey.

The sides meet in the second leg of the quarter-final with the game goalless from the first meeting, and Berizzo doesn’t want his side going all out at Vicente Calderon.

“Much of the match lies in the balance of attacking and not conceding because Atletico are an opponent who will punish you for disorder,” he told reporters, according to AS.

“I hope we find the way to goal but it seems to me that it is more important to find the balance between scoring and not conceding.

“We believe in being true to ourselves, playing our game, and then our chances improve. We will have a lot of personality to develop our plan against a very difficult opponent at a ground that requires a lot of concentration.

“How high up the pitch we recover the ball will be important to take away from an opponent who uses space very well.”

Berizzo added that as far as he was concerned, Celta even being on the same level as Atletico is a feather in their cap.

“Having competed as equals against a rival such as Atletico is a big boost for the second leg,” he continued.

“The team has grown in maturity and personality.”
