Zidane stands by rotations

Zinedine Zidane insists he will continue to rotate the Real Madrid squad after being questioned why Dani Carvajal was dropped for Real Betis.

Danilo started at right-back only to be replaced by Carvajal in the second half, Zizou explaining his thinking to the Press after the 1-1 draw.

“Dani came on in the second half, there was nothing to it,” he insisted, AS reports.

“Danilo started and there’s nothing else, that’s it. I’m happy with Carvajal’s two games, today Danilo started and he also did well.

“We have a very deep squad and I’m always going to rotate.”

James Rodriguez also returned to the XI amid reports from Spain that he and Zidane haven’t been getting along, but the Coach praised the Colombian.

“I told him he had to move, not only outside but also inside,” Zizou revealed.

“I’m very happy with his performance. It’s his first start and I’m happy.”

Asked why he only used two of his three permitted substitutes even as Madrid chased a winner, Zidane suggested he didn’t see how the team could improve.

“I used two because the team was so good and I wanted it to continue until the end,” he clarified.
