Zinedine Zidane was philosophical after dropping his first points as Real Madrid Coach in the 1-1 draw with Real Betis.
Alvaro Cejudo put Betis in front in the first half with a jaw-dropping goal and Madrid dominated thereafter, Karim Benzema equalising but Betis held on for a point.
“Did I expect to drop two points here? No, but that’s football,” he lamented, according to AS, when speaking to reporters post-match.
“If you don’t put [the ball in], it can’t happen. I didn’t expect to drop points, but with the game we played I can’t reproach my players.
“I was expecting a Betis like that, and the goal they scored was spectacular. The fans were with the team and I saw a good Betis.
“I’m not disappointed. We’ll continue this line of work. We’re going in a good direction. We have to take the positives, we’ve dropped two points and that’s a negative note, but we have to think that this can be corrected later and that it’s necessary to fight to the end of the League.
“Today I saw the team better, the good thing is that [physically] we were a lot better at the end of the game, in the second half.
“We’re in our third week now and we’ll continue to work. I’m very proud of what we did tonight. We just lack two points.
“Maybe we lacked something in the beginning. I knew the first 15 minutes would be difficult, it was a difficult game then.
“Then with the game we played we deserved much more. But this is football. When you create chances you have to take them. We lacked luck.”
