Arda Turan reveals the Barcelona squad are motivated by regaining the Champions League and reflects on the 2014 final, when he was with Atletico Madrid.
Turan was an injury-enforced absence for the game in Lisbon against Real Madrid, eventually won by Los Blancos in extra time despite trailing for much of the 90 minutes.
“I cried a lot when [Atleti] lost against Madrid. I still haven’t seen the end of that game,” he admitted, AS reports.
“I don’t know if we would have won had I been on the pitch. I’ve always been an important player but a team isn’t just one player. Maybe it would have been worse if I’d have played.”
Turan now has the chance to put that disappointment behind him having joined Barca in the summer and been registered in January after the club’s transfer embargo was lifted.
“We want to win two consecutive Champions Leagues. That’s the issue that we talk about most in the locker room and that motivates us,” he explained.
“We want to be the first team to win two consecutive Champions Leagues.”
Turan concluded by offering his thoughts on two of his teammates, one his ‘idol’ and another ‘the best player in history.’
“Andres Iniesta is my idol. He’s amazing,” Turan said of the club captain.
“Lionel Messi is the best player in history but Iniesta is incomparable. He enjoys playing and I enjoy seeing him play.”
