Berizzo: Beauvue not replacing Nolito

Eduardo Berizzo insists Claudio Beauvue has not joined Celta Vigo to replace Barcelona target Nolito after counting his lucky stars against Levante.

Beauvue completed his transfer from Lyon on Sunday, amidst speculation his arrival will facilitate Nolito’s long-awaited return to Camp Nou, but Berizzo has made it clear that he intends to pair up the two forwards.

“[Beauvue’s] a very good player, very forward-minded and very quick,” he was quoted as saying by Marca.

“He’s a player who can make the difference and hopefully he’ll adapt very quickly to our system.

“He can play in positions like the right wing to release our forwards with his speed and one-on-one ability.

“Beauvue has arrived because we need him. His signing is not linked to Nolito’s departure. He hasn’t joined to replace anyone.

“Both he and Marcelo Diaz are important players, who come from major Leagues, and they will be very good for us.

“[On Levy Madinda and Dejan Drazic leaving], if they want to leave then they can, as long as the club agree, but I don’t believe we have many players who do.”

When quizzed on Celta’s dramatic 4-3 victory over Levante a day before, Berizzo remarked: “It wasn’t easy to play football on the [Balaidos] pitch. The players needed three touches to control the ball.

“The pitch isn’t an excuse, but it didn’t help us because it almost punished us due to it being so soft.

“Luckily we got three points we needed but not without suffering.”
