Emery: Sevilla below expectations

Unai Emery has admitted that Sevilla “are performing below expectations” in La Liga ahead of Saturday’s Andalucian derby against Malaga.

Los Nervionenses are currently a point behind Eibar, who occupy the last Europa League berth, and some 10 behind fourth-placed Villarreal, making the visit of their local rivals all the more important in the Coach’s eyes.

“What matters is winning and winning,” he said at a Press conference.

“Everything we do is for the good of the players’ confidence, but too much confidence is bad.

“We’re performing below expectations in the League, and now there are vital points up for grabs against a Malaga side with a good Coach, who has built a good and patient team.

“[On facing Mirandes in the Copa del Rey], Sevilla have a great responsibility in the cup and the fans want it that way.

“We’ve not gone as far as we’d have liked in the last two seasons and Mirandes will be difficult because they have a good Coach and players who deserve all our respect.”
