Espanyol have been reported by the LFP to the Anti-Violence Commission for the banners displayed in the Copa del Rey defeat to Barcelona.
A number of anti-Barca and anti-Gerard Pique banners were seen in the crowd as La Blaugrana beat Los Periquitos 2-0 to move to the tournament’s quarter-final stage.
Sport cites El Confidencial as reporting that the League has complained to the authorities about the banners, with referee David Fernandez Borbalan not having included them in his match report.
Pictures of an Espanyol fan with a pig’s head, allegedly intended to be thrown at Pique, also surfaced on social media, Sport notes.
AS meanwhile add that the Espanyol board are to discuss the banners, and have told the publication that they knew only of the content of one, a banner that poked fun at Barca’s foundation by Switzerland’s Joan Gamper compared to Espanyol’s Spanish roots.
A report on comments made by Pique after the first leg, which it’s alleged may have inflamed tensions before Wednesday’s return, will also be sent by the Anti-Violence Commission to the LFP’s Competition Committee, and Pique could be banned, according to AS.
