Del Bosque not planning for 2018

Vicente Del Bosque says he doesn’t expect to be Spain Coach at the next World Cup but denied his future is tied to that of Angel Maria Villar.

Villar, the President of the Spanish Football Federation, is this year standing for re-election, with the poll to be held before Euro 2016, a competition Del Bosque has suggested will be his last as La Roja trainer.

“Now I don’t see myself on the bench during the World Cup in Russia, but there is a lot of time to handle a replacement in a natural manner,” he told Radio Marca.

“I have a personal commitment to Villar, Jorge Perez [the Federation’s secretary general and a rumoured challenger to Villar] and to Spanish football, but I don’t think me staying relates to Villar and the Presidency.

“I have a great relationship with everyone at the Federation and my family says what I am doing is fine. Of course, I’ll never leave the Federation. I’ll be there if I’m asked to be.

“I don’t want to go against a majority opinion. I’m 65 and the rest of my life won’t be on the bench.”
