Perez to challenge Villar?

Jorge Perez, the secretary general of the Spanish Football Federation [RFEF], could challenge President Angel Maria Villar in this year’s elections.

Marca report that Perez and Miguel Angel Galan, the President of a soccer school in the outskirts of Madrid, are to compete with Villar for the post.

Perez’s nomination is said to have the support of the Spanish Sports Council [CSD], the LFP and a number of regional football federations.

Elections were initially called by Villar for April, a date rejected by the CSD, with May or June a possible time frame for the vote.

AS notes Perez was originally a Press officer with the RFEF, and has worked at the governing body since 1990.

The publication also suggests Perez lost power at the RFEF after a falling out with Vice-President Juan Padron.

Candidates have to be confirmed by February 19.
