Javi Gracia paid tribute to Roque Santa Cruz for his evergreen performance in Malaga’s 1-1 draw with Las Palmas on Sunday.
The veteran striker took advantage of a rare appearance as he scored the Andalucians’ equaliser after Tana had fired the hosts ahead, and the Coach was grateful that his side were able to salvage their unbeaten run in La Liga, which now stands at seven games.
“We had possession, created chances, played the game away from our box and didn’t suffer too much [before Las Palmas scored],” he said after the game.
“We were fired up for the equaliser and stopped them from playing their usual game.
“We had lots of attempts at their goal, but perhaps we could’ve been more clinical.
“Still, I think a draw is fair for the work of the two teams and [going seven without defeat] is something to value.
“Given we were bottom not long ago, we must not lose our humility.
“[Santa Cruz] is a player who I won’t find again and doesn’t allow the years to pass him by.
“I’m very happy because he scored in an important part of the match and his goal served as recognition of the work done by those who have played less.
“[Chory Castro] did very well, and I’m happy with his display because he did what I asked of him, which was to offer an outlet down the left.”
