Sarver takes over Mallorca

American businessman Robert Sarver is the new owner of Real Mallorca, after purchasing 77% of the shares of the Segunda club.

Sarver also owns NBA outfit Phoenix Suns and is joined in the venture by basketball legend Steve Nash and former professional tennis player Andy Kohlberg, who is also the Suns’ Vice-President, in controlling the island club.

AS reports the group, operating under the auspices of Liga ACQ Legacy Partners, have paid just over €20m for their stake in Mallorca.

Sarver has previously been linked with attempts to buy Getafe and Levante and it’s reported an agreement to purchase Mallorca has been formally closed.

Utz Claasen, the previous Mallorca owner, retains a 22% stake in the club.
