Berizzo: If Augusto doesn’t want to play…

Celta Vigo Coach Eduardo Berizzo will leave the decision whether or not to play against Athletic Bilbao to Augusto Fernandez.

Augusto is set to join Atletico Madrid when the transfer window opens and it was reported that Diego Simeone hoped to have the midfielder training with his future teammates already, but as it stands he is part of the Celta squad to meet the Basques, even though Berizzo could offer no guarantees he’d play.

“Augusto is one more player, unless there’s a personal decision he’s one of us. If he wants to play, he’ll play,” Berizzo said, Marca reports.

“If Augusto feels he shouldn’t play, so be it. He’s always behaved very well, has always been professional and passionate. If that’s what his position is, I understand and he won’t play. If he declares his intention not to participate, he won’t.”

Celta are looking for a replacement for their captain but Berizzo admitted it’s not easy to find someone to step in for Augusto.

“It’s easier to look abroad than the domestic market or in Europe. It’s not easy to find his replacement because Augusto has a specific gravity on this team and this is a very complicated market. There are situations more advanced than others,” he revealed.
