Zaragoza appoint Carreras

Real Zaragoza have appointed Lluis Carreras as their new Coach on a contract until the end of the season.

The Aragonese side turned to Carreras after talks with Fernando Vazquez, Juan Ignacio Martinez and Joaquin Caparros fell through, Marca reports.

The 43-year-old will be unveiled on Monday evening, before taking his first training session on Tuesday, a statement on Zaragoza’s official website reads.

A former left-back who represented the likes of Barcelona, Mallorca and Atletico Madrid, Carreras’ first foray into professional management was at Sabadell between 2010 and 2013.

He led the Catalans to La Segunda at the first time of asking and kept them up in his following two seasons but lasted just three months at Mallorca in the latter part of 2013-14.

Carreras succeeds Ranko Popovic, who was sacked by Zaragoza last week after he failed to guide the club into promotion contention before the winter break.
