Report: Elche suing La Liga

Elche are reportedly suing the LFP for more than €60m in damages after they were forcibly relegated at the end of last season.

AS cites a report from Onda Cero that says the club are taking the action in light of television money they would have received had they not been demoted, a decision with which Los Franjiverdes still disagree.

Elche were relegated for financial reasons – an outstanding tax debt – but insist they met the criteria to continue in the Primera after finishing 13th.

The League disagrees, however, and found Elche were late submitting the relevant documentation, and sent them to the Segunda, saving Eibar in the process.

It was a decision of Elche’s previous board to take legal action for €61m and the current leadership, headed by Juan Serrano, has chosen to continue with the suit.

The cost of players who left the club after relegation and the economic impact on the region are also figured into the sum, AS notes.
