Vicente del Bosque has appeared to confirm that he will leave his role as Spain Coach after Euro 2016.
The 64-year-old has served La Roja since the summer of 2008, winning the 2010 World Cup and Euro 2012 in a historic reign, and – in an excerpt of his forthcoming book ‘Winning or Losing’, AS reports – he will announce his retirement next year.
“If everything goes to plan then I’ll leave the national team and the Federation after Euro 2016,” it reads.
“It’s also a matter of my health. It will be eight years as [Spain] Coach next year and I don’t intend to cling onto my office.
“What I want most is that I end my cycle on a good note.
“I could have retired long ago, but I wanted to fulfil my objectives, like any Spaniard would, and work until the age at which most Spaniards retire.
“I think I’ve fulfilled my objectives and consider myself privileged to have been able to enjoy what has been my professional passion, football.
“Now, at this time, when I’m nearing my retirement, I’m not looking to the future.
“When I face this reality, on the first morning since leaving my post, I think I’ll live a normal life.”
