Pique in Arbeloa ‘conocido’ jibe

Barcelona defender Gerard Pique hit back at Alvaro Arbeloa with a sarcastic play-on-words as he called the Real Madrid full-back a “cono … cido”.

Arbeloa recently claimed that Pique was his friend, who would be involved in the comedy circuit once he retired from football, and the Catalan stopper replied to his rival by branding him both a ‘conocido’, translating to ‘acquaintance’, and the derogatory term ‘cono’.

“It’s a blow, but we’ll bounce back. They were brave and deserved the point,” he said after Barca’s 2-2 draw with Deportivo on Saturday.

“We had control of the game for 75 minutes in a dignified manner but it ran away from us.

“It’s the second time this has happened [against Depor], but I’m sure we’ll rise again.

“We haven’t thought about the Club World Cup. The last few minutes cost us a lot and it’s never good to drop points at Camp Nou.

“Arbeloa proclaims to be my friend, but he’s only a ‘conocido’ [an acquaintance], a ‘cono’ … cido.”
