Casillas targets Madrid in Super Cup

Iker Casillas hopes to play Real Madrid in the European Super Cup next year after Porto dropped into the Europa League.

Meeting his former side in the summer showpiece would mean both Porto winning the Europa League and Madrid regaining the Champions League for what would be their 11th European Cup success.

“I hope Madrid do very well, they’re through to the next round and I hope we can win and we’ll see them in the European Super Cup,” the Spain captain said, AS reports, after Porto lost at Jose Mourinho’s Chelsea.

“We didn’t do well and we won’t continue in the most important competition, but the Europa League is another challenge. Of course staying in the Champions League is what we wanted, but it’s a new competition for me and I’ll face it with enthusiasm.”

Casillas had little interest in discussing a perceived feud with former Madrid Coach Mourinho, who suggested for his part that Porto’s elimination at least gives Casillas the chance to win the only trophy he hasn’t yet claimed.

“This is football. I’m not interested in what’s said in the Press. I just play football, and I’m in good or bad form,” the goalkeeper continued.
