Soldado: I’d rather score than create

Roberto Soldado is content to have a number of assists to his name but the Villarreal striker admits he’d prefer to be putting the goals away himself.

Soldado was speaking to preview the Yellow Submarine’s Europa League tie at Viktoria Plzen and said it was important the team went into the match on the back of a win, after beating Rayo Vallecano at the weekend.

“I was satisfied with the team’s victory, which gives us back confidence and tranquillity,” he said, AS reports.

“It was vital we won. We needed three points because it was a difficult streak and more so as we were playing at home.

“But we have to improve our results away as it takes a lot for us to get points outside El Madrigal.”

Soldado now has as many assists for Villarreal as Neymar does for Barcelona this season but said that, as a striker, he wants more goals to his name.

“The assists are good for the team and my numbers in that area aren’t bad, but I’d rather get the goals than give them,” he confirmed.

“Although the important thing is the team wins and for that I’m happy. It would change everything to get more goals but more important is the team’s results, and they make me happy.”
