Report: Husillos out at Malaga

Malaga owner Sheikh Al-Thani has reportedly gotten his way and had Mario Husillos removed as the club’s sporting director.

It had been reported that Al-Thani wanted Husillos sacked in November but general manager Vicente Casado refused, leading to an institutional crisis.

Casado was however sacked this week and accused of ‘criminal acts’ and Diario Sur reports Husillos is also about to lose his post on the orders of Al-Thani.

There isn’t yet a replacement, though Francesc Arnau, who works within the youth system, is expected to be given the job.

Husillo’s departure should be confirmed by the end of the week, the report adds, but he is still carrying out his duties having been at Cadiz to see Pol Balleste play Real Madrid, and he’s also expected to watch RB Linense against Athletic Bilbao to scout Chen.

Arnau won’t be a temporary replacement but instead, with the January window in mind, will have the full powers of the sporting director’s office.
