Voro named Valencia caretaker

Valencia have put Salvador Voro in caretaker charge while they search for Nuno Santo’s permanent successor.

The Portuguese resigned from his position after Sunday’s 1-0 defeat at Sevilla, and a familiar face will oversee the first team in the 52-year-old, having played over 200 games for Los Che between 1984 and 1993 and taken the interim reigns twice before in 2008 and 2012, even winning the Copa del Rey the first time around.

“Nuno Espirito Santo has parted company with Valencia by mutual consent,” a statement on Valencia’s website reads.

“Valencia are grateful to him and his coaching staff for their work in the last 18 months.

“In light of the termination, Salvador Gonzalez Voro has been named interim Coach, with the support of Phil Neville and the club’s coaching staff.

“Voro will take charge of the first team until a new Coach is appointed.”

Voro’s first game will be Wednesday’s Copa last-32 first leg against Barakaldo.
