Berizzo reveals Orban admiration

Eduardo Berizzo has confessed his admiration for Lucas Orban as Celta Vigo are linked with the out-of-favour Valencia defender.

The 26-year-old, who joined Los Che from Bordeaux last summer, has made just five appearances this season, and his countryman admits he would be an ideal signing for the Galicians in light of their injury crisis at the back, with Nemanja Radoja and Andreu Fontas sidelined.

“It’s a big game for us and one in which the connection with the crowd will be important,” he said at a Press conference ahead of Saturday’s match against Sporting Gijon in La Liga.

“We need to win because we haven’t won at home for a while.

“The players know they have to response, but we must not force anything because they understand everything. We need each [player] to show character.

“We’re not a team who play depending on our opponents. We always go out to win.

“We’re in a privileged position and must win at home to stay there.

“Sporting are a very aggressive team, who invest a lot of effort in terms of pressure, so we must invest the same effort to escape from that pressure and play with imagination and mobility to avoid their counterattacks.

“[Orban] is a player who I know well and plays in a big team, and I like him but my plans are secret.

“He’s a very good and interesting player, who can play both in the middle and out wide and adapt to both attacking and defensive situations.

“He would fit into the team. Good players always fit.

“[On injuries to Nemanja Radoja and Andreu Fontas], they are two important players for us but injuries happen.

“We must respond, but what’s more important is who comes than who goes out. I can see us being active in January.”
