Emery: Sevilla have to win

Unai Emery knows Sevilla can’t afford to drop points at Borussia Monchengladbach if they’re to remain in the Champions League.

Los Rojiblancos are in Germany and thus far Gladbach are the only side they’ve beaten in the group stages, with another win non-negotiable, while Sevilla could also do with Juventus losing to Manchester City.

“I’ve been at Sevilla for three years and we’ve grown. We competed in games in the Europa League and now the Champions League,” Emery said, AS reports.

“We want to enjoy this opportunity. We want to play a good game against a great opponent who is in form.

“To win here is a must. We’ve had great performances this year without the result. We want the three points and then we’ll see what happens from there.

“This group is committed, involved, aware and knows that we are doing well but we lack the necessary impetus. That’s in the League and the Champions League.

“The players are experienced. They have the dream of having a great game.

“I know the solution: work. Improve the defensive aspects, offensive, relationships on the field, to find the most competitive team. Every game we face is a challenge to our best.

“We know Gladbach from last season. Some things have changed but they’re on the same path. Our challenge is to overcome their qualities.”
