Prieto: Home win a relief

Real Sociedad were long overdue for a home win, Xavi Prieto admitted, after scoring the opening goal against Sevilla.

The victory was a first for new Coach Eusebio Sacristan, who replaced David Moyes earlier in November, and ended a run of five winless games at Anoeta.

“The truth is the win has taken a big load off, because we needed it. We only had nine points and we were at Anoeta, where we’ve had trouble winning, and where we have to do it more often because it’s where we have to pick up the most points,” Prieto told Marca.

“We looked forward to the win! Five games without a win in front of our own fans was too many. We wanted a satisfied team and to give the fans a smile.

“I thought we deserved to win against Athletic Bilbao. Against Celta Vigo, at least a draw. We were in front against Espanyol until we went to 10 men…

“Sevilla was our most complete game and, as a result, we were able to go forward.”

Prieto added that he hopes to get on the score sheet more often this season but is thankful for the form of the game’s other scorer, Imanol Agirretxe.

“Obviously I want to try and score and I have to contribute more, but fortunately Imanol is on a roll,” he continued.

“He can score 20 goals this season. He has nine in 12 and I think he can do it. We’ll try to help him and to help score points, but others will try to score too and take some responsibility.”
