Ramos: Closer with Ancelotti, but…

Sergio Ramos has admitted that Real Madrid “were closer” to Carlo Ancelotti but insists their relationship with Rafa Benitez is “good”.

Los Blancos suffered their third-heaviest home defeat in the Clasico on Saturday as they fell to a 4-0 reverse at the hands of Barcelona, but the defender made it clear that it was too early for his side to write their season off.

“I don’t like to point fingers or resort to blaming,” he said after the game.

“When things don’t go well, that’s when we must be more united.

“Now we must turn the page and think about the next game.

“It would be foolish not to believe in your own Coach.

“We have to be more united than ever with our President and Coach.

"We weren’t comfortable against Barcelona, who played a great game.

“When the result is so big, there’s too many words [reported], but Real Madrid only deal with facts.

“They didn’t miss a beat. We didn’t frustrate Barca or put them under enough pressure.

“They were very comfortable and had a very complete game.

“There’s still six months of the season to go and it’s too early to talk about failure. We’re still in all the competitions.

“We’re six points behind a team who don’t usually fail, but we’ve won Leagues when we’ve been behind.

"Sometimes the players, Coach and President get booed, but this is part of our status.

“We were closer [with Carlo Ancelotti] as we worked with him for two years, but our relationship with Benitez is good.”
