Van Gaal: United want Ronaldo back

Louis van Gaal has confirmed for the first time that Manchester United want to re-sign Real Madrid star Cristiano Ronaldo.

The forward has been heavily linked with a departure from Los Blancos this summer after refusing to commit his long-term future to the club while promoting his film, and the Dutchman admits the Red Devils are looking to bring back their former hero.

“We are looking at all players, not just Ronaldo,” he told BBC Sport after United’s 2-1 win at Watford on Saturday.

“But these players are mostly ungettable. With Ronaldo, let's wait and hope.”

Ronaldo spent six years at Old Trafford between 2003 and 2009, scoring 118 goals in 292 appearances and winning three consecutive Premier League titles, plus a Champions League in 2008.
