Clasico ‘pressure’ investigation opens

The anti-corruption prosecutor for Barcelona has opened an investigation into the claims from an assistant referee of ‘pressure’ to favour Real Madrid.

It was alleged in October that a call had been made by a member of the Referees’ Committee to an official in which the official was told to take a pro-Madrid stance in decisions.

El Mundo and Marca report the investigation is now open to establish the veracity of the claims and the more information is being sought.

The assistant referee allegedly on the receiving end of the call has not been named for fear of ‘reprisals’.
