Official: Belgium-Spain cancelled

Tuesday’s friendly between Belgium and Spain has been cancelled due to security fears following Friday’s terrorist attacks in Paris.

La Roja were due to play the Red Devils in Brussels but it was confirmed in the early hours of Tuesday morning that the game would not go ahead.

The BBC notes a Belgian national is believed to have orchestrated the attacks on the French capital and the terror threat level in Belgium was raised on Monday.

The Spain squad is in Belgium already and AS notes they arrived ‘surrounded by tight security.’

AS also reports of meetings between the representatives of the two countries’ football federations and the recommendation of the Belgian government that the game not be played.
