Gameiro: Why not 30 goals?

Kevin Gameiro has set himself a target of at least 20 goals for Sevilla this season but is feeling optimistic after a recent prolific run.

The France international has been interviewed by Marca and discussed his situation and that of his club, who are recovering from a slow start in the Primera.

“Football is difficult. It’s not easy to do what we have done these past two years,” Gameiro noted.

“I think that’s four or five games from which we can take confidence. We’re fine, but we can do much better. We’ve worked hard on the pitch.

“We need to get on a run and we can’t have any more defeats. We can still reach the Champions League, but we mustn’t lose any more points.”

Individually Gameiro has found some form, scoring a hat-trick against Getafe as Los Rojiblancos routed the Madrid side 5-0 in October.

“For a striker it’s important to have the confidence of the group, the Coach, the club,” he admitted.

“It’s very important for me to feel that way, so now it’s another Gameiro. I won’t hold back. I’m going to continue on this path.

“I said in pre-season I think I can get 20 goals. And then we’ll see how the season goes. It’s a good number for a striker.

“We’ll see [if I can get more]. I have confidence and I hope I can. Why not 30?”
