Cheryshev ‘on Valencia agenda’

Valencia could make a winter move for Real Madrid winger Denis Cheryshev but the potential transfer would be both costly and expensive.

Super Deporte say Los Che have identified the Russia international as a January target and Cheryshev may be open to the move in order to safeguard his place at Euro 2016.

Russia Coach Leonid Slutsky has suggested Cheryshev needs to play more often, using the phrase ‘a thief should be in prison and a footballer on the pitch’ to make his point.

Cheryshev has had only 60 minutes under Rafa Benitez and while he has mostly retained the faith of Slutsky, he played only four minutes against Montenegro and was benched against Sweden, Lichtenstein and Moldova.

The former Villarreal loanee had until recently insisted he wanted to stay at Santiago Bernabeu and fight for his place but it’s suggested that as the weeks go by and he fails to convince Benitez, he gets closer to the exit.

A fee of €20m is mooted but Cheryshev is described as a ‘complex alternative’ for the Mestalla club.
