Spanish football offers support to France

Spain’s clubs, players and officials have offered words of support and sympathy to France after Friday’s terrorist attacks in Paris.

More than 100 people died after a series of bombings and shootings, including an attempt to interrupt the France-Germany friendly in which Real Madrid’s Raphael Varane, Atletico Madrid’s Antoine Griezmann and Valencia’s Shkodran Mustafi were playing.

Griezmann’s sister survived the attack on the Bataclan night club, the player confirmed on Twitter.

The game was also officiated by an all-Spanish team led by referee Antonio Mateu Lahoz. Reports in Spain say the officials and the players have been able to return to Spain.

Clubs across Spain, as well as individual players and figures such as LFP President Javier Tebas, have posted messages of support and sympathy on their Twitter accounts, as have Spanish players based outside the country.

Spain Coach Vicente Del Bosque also offered his sympathy when asked about the attacks following Spain’s win over England in Alicante, as did a number of players.
