Alcacer admits Negredo sympathy

Spain striker Paco Alcacer has admitted that he is at a loss to explain Alvaro Negredo’s exile from the Valencia squad.

The former Manchester City man has been omitted from Los Che’s last six matchdays, resulting in his absence from the national-team setup, but his clubmate insists he has trained well and is working hard for a recall.

“Personally I feel good. I want to keep improving as a player so I keep being called up to the Spanish national team,” he told Marca.

“I always try to improve on last season, although maybe I haven’t started [the season] so well at club level.

“On a personal level, however, I have five goals so far and my mentality is to keep improving.

“[Diego Costa, Alvaro Morata and I] get along well, but the truth is I don’t know [why Vicente del Bosque hasn’t settled on a No 9].

“At the end of the day, these decisions are decisions of the Coach. We can only dedicate ourselves to working hard and doing my best.

“Negredo is training well and a great professional. From my point of view, what he must do is keep working hard to seize his opportunity when it comes.

“Negredo doesn’t have anything to prove. He’s demonstrated [his quality] throughout his career and we all know his potential.

“[On why he may be left out], the players are only dedicated to playing and these are issues of policy.

“Negredo misses the national team. He was very happy when he was here because all his teammates made it easier for him.

“Dani [Parejo] is having a very good season. He also had a great campaign last season.

“The good thing with him is that he knows what his qualities are and that’s why he’s playing so well.

“[On Costa now fitting into the team], I don’t think so. If you’re here then it’s because you’re at the desired level.

“Like Morata and I, he has enormous potential. As for goals, they’ll soon follow.”
