Ronaldinho: Neymar a phenomenon

Ronaldinho describes Neymar as a phenomenon, remembers Luis Enrique as a Barcelona teammate and shares his happiest memory of Lionel Messi.

The two-time Primera winner was interviewed for Barca TV with his comments reported by Mundo Deportivo, and fellow Brazilian Neymar was the first topic of conversation.

“He’s a phenomenon, the best Brazilian player today, continuing the joy of everything before him and it's very nice to see another Brazilian making history,” Ronaldinho said.

“Neymar is a great player and a friend, and I hope he continues having success and that everything goes well.”

Ronaldinho’s career at Camp Nou overlapped briefly with the end of Enrique’s playing days, and Ronaldinho was fulsome in his praise for the Coach, pointing to one particular incident when they were teammates.

“We didn’t play much together but I remember in his last game we got a penalty and I wanted to give it to him, but he refused,” Ronaldinho recalled.

“He made history as a player and as a Coach he’ll be one of the best in the world.”

Ronaldinho spent more time playing alongside Messi in the Argentine’s early experience of the Barca first team, and delighted in setting up Messi’s first goal.

“I expected Messi would achieve all this because he always showed great quality,” Ronaldinho began.

“It’s very nice to see how he grows each passing year, more and more experience, more maturity, that’s the beauty of football.

“One of the best memories I have is when I gave him the assist for his first goal. That’s special for everyone who plays together as it was there he began his career.

“Being part of the beginning of his story is something I remember fondly.”
