Manchester City winger Jesus Navas has vowed to never give up on earning a recall to the Spain squad, despite an 18-month absence.
The 29-year-old did not make his debut for La Roja until 2009, having previously suffered from homesickness, but he is determined to add to his 34 caps, the last of which came prior to the 2014 World Cup.
“I’ve always tried to earn a place in the national team,” he told Marca.
“It’s something that I’m working hard for, but only if I do well for City.
“I’ve always been proud to play for Spain, and it’s an honour to be called by your country.
“If I get another opportunity then it’d be amazing, as it is for any player.
“I always try to do my best, and my Coaches, teammates and fans make it easier for me. I think they’re one of the reasons why I’m playing well right now.
“I try my best in every game. The team are doing well, and I’m happy with what we are doing at the moment to be part of this.
“I’ve felt the Coach’s [Manuel Pellegrini] confidence since he arrived, but the same goes for my teammates. It’s no different in that sense.
“Sevilla was different. It was a special night for me to play against them.
“After representing them for more than 10 years, it was a bit strange to be playing against them, but it was a great experience and we got the result we needed.”
