Moyes sacked by La Real

David Moyes has been sacked as Coach of Real Sociedad after a year in charge at Anoeta.

The Basque club have decided to pull the plug on the 52-year-old’s reign after Saturday’s 2-0 defeat to Las Palmas left them with only two wins in 11 matches and 16th in La Liga, level on points with the relegation-placed new boys.

A statement on La Real’s official website reads: “Real Sociedad have decided to terminate the contract of first-team Coach David Moyes.

“His assistant Billy McKinlay has also left Los Txuriurdin.

“The Txuriurdin club wish to thank both David Moyes and Billy McKinlay for their work, professionalism and dedication they’ve shown during the course of their stay at the club, while wishing them the best for their future endeavours, both professionally and personally.”

Moyes was also understood to have been informed of his sacking on Sunday, but his flight back to San Sebastian was delayed.

The former Everton and Manchester United boss replaced Jagoba Arrasate last November, amid much fanfare, and eventually guided the side from the relegation zone to 12th.

However, a strained summer, which did not see La Real make a first-team signing until the end of July, made for a poor start to 2015-16.

Former Barcelona B trainer Eusebio Sacristan is expected to be named as Moyes’ successor imminently.
