‘Betis have Adan & Castro to thank’

Pepe Mel hailed the contributions of goalkeeper Antonio Adan and striker Ruben Castro after Real Betis’ 1-0 win at Malaga on Saturday.

Adan kept his third away clean sheet of the season at La Rosaleda, while Castro scored his seventh goal of the season to move him joint-fourth in the Pichichi stakes, and the Coach admitted the pair’s contributions were helping the Andalucians stay afloat in La Liga.

“It’s true that Antonio Adan is having a very good season and Ruben Castro also deserves a lot of credit for maintaining his levels year after year,” he said after the game.

“However, there are nine other players in the team who have worked hard too.

“[The result] smiled upon us, but this is football. Although we’re in Week 11, it means nothing.

“We need to maintain our cohesion so we keep improving.

“We’re a reliable away team as we show less of our weaknesses and make it difficult for our opponents.

“Malaga did very well, playing quick football, and I congratulate them for that, but the result is what it is.”
