Emery: Sevilla must be perfect

Unai Emery has warned his Sevilla players that only their “best” will do against Real Madrid on Sunday.

The Andalucians have won only one of their last three games to leave them languishing in the bottom half of La Liga after 10 rounds, but the Coach is urging his side to draw inspiration from their performances against Barcelona and Manchester City when they host Los Blancos this weekend.

“We need to be at our best, whether we’re playing the top or bottom team,” the Coach said at a Press conference.

“It’s necessary to hark back to the good things we did against [Manchester] City and Barcelona.

“We must do things right and be prepared to suffer.

“We can’t lack intensity. [Playing Madrid] demands high intensity but sticking to the rules at the same time.

“We’re improving but still lacking in certain things – intensity, tactical nous and defensive solidity.

“[Sunday] is a good chance for us to be the team we want to be.

“It’s an important game because we need to continue restoring our credibility.

“We also need the fans to be the 12th man because we’re facing the [League] leaders, who are having a great season.

“Kevin Gameiro isn’t in the team because he hasn’t recovered in time.

“[His absence] gives opportunities to players who haven’t played much [referring to Ciro Immobile and Juan Munoz].

“A Coach always finds his job difficult. You work to ensure you experience more good times than bad times.

“Our results in La Liga have been below expectations, but I assume responsibility.

“[Madrid] aren’t a direct rival because they currently have 12 points more than Sevilla.

“[On Karim Benzema’s absence], he’s someone who can make the difference. Madrid protect their players and his situation won’t influence their ability to work.

“They’ve started to come good under [Rafa] Benitez, but Real Madrid have been, are and always will be a great team.

“I’d like the fans to enjoy a great Sevilla performance, with intensity and good play.”
