No big winter spending at Espanyol

Espanyol aren’t expected to splash the cash in the January transfer market despite the takeover by Chen Yansheng’s Rastar Group.

AS reports that despite speculation of an influx of new faces this winter, the window is likely to be a quiet for at Cornella-El Prat.

That’s because Rastar’s priority in the short-term is paring down the debts accrued, and that’s a process that won’t be completed in a matter of a few months.

There’s also the issue of the LFP-enforced salary cap that is in effect and it can’t be breached by the new owners.

Yansheng intends to grow the squad gradually and will leave the decisions on transfers to the sporting director Oscar Pernau and Coach Sergio Gonzalez.

A major outlay is though planned for the summer but no monetary figure has been floated, as it will depend on the wants of Pernau and Sergio, the players available in the market and the performances of the players currently on Espanyol’s books.

There are meanwhile reports Yansheng will be the Espanyol President, replacing Joan Collet, and will name a chief executive to over-see the running of the club.
