Benitez: We’re through and happy

Rafa Benitez wasn’t concerned that the Santiago Bernabeu crowd didn’t appear impressed by Real Madrid’s performance against Paris Saint-Germain.

Madrid won 1-0 through a Nacho goal but the visitors dominated much of the match, yet Madrid took three points that send them through to the next round of the Champions League.

“We’re qualified, we are happy. The team is still improving and we are still getting players back from injury,” Benitez replied when asked about the unsettled crowd.

“We’ve qualified and we’ll be stronger when we have the others back.

“PSG are a great team and I’m happy because we’ve qualified. We’ve won and we’ve suffered, but we’re top of the group without conceding a goal. It’s a positive against a difficult opponent. The performance here gives more value to the result in Paris.”

Benitez also touched on the injury to Marcelo and suggested it was inevitable given the schedule and Madrid’s lack of left-back cover.

“When you play so many games in a row the risk [of injury] increases. It was unlucky,” he said.
