Athletic Bilbao want to raise Inaki Williams’ release clause in an effort to ward off interest from Everton, who have scouted the forward.
AS reports Jesus Seba, a trusted lieutenant of Toffees manager Roberto Martinez, has more than once watched the 21-year-old, who scored twice in the win over Real Betis.
Williams’ current deal expires in 2017 and Everton would have to pay €20m to get him out of it, and there are other Premier League suitors interested as well.
Athletic are thought to have approached Williams with an offer worth €400,000 a year, someway short of the pay-packet received by the likes of Ibai Gomez.
Williams has spoken of his desire to remain at San Mames but his agent, Felix Tainta, is suggesting the Spain Under-21 international should be paid on par with his teammates.
Talks are though at an early stage and Athletic’s intention is to double Williams’ buyout clause to €40m.
