Yansheng ‘will keep Espanyol values’

New Espanyol owner Chen Yansheng has promised to maintain the ‘values’ of Espanyol after his Rastar Group purchased the club.

Yansheng has been interviewed by Mundo Deportivo upon taking control of the Catalans and confirmed he was introduced to the club by former President Daniel Sanchez Llibre.

“I follow La Liga and I know a lot of the clubs. I became interested in Espanyol’s financial situation,” Yansheng explained.

“Dani and I became friends and after a while we started to discuss the project. We have a lot in common, we are football fans and slowly the project grew.

“When we started talking about the project, I visited Barcelona and fell in love with the city. I loved the people, who are very kind and friendly, and the weather. It is a highly-developed, safe city that in the future many Chinese will come to. They’ll follow our example.

“The main thing is to solve the financial problem. I’ve taken over the guarantees of the largest shareholders, the debts and have presented a plan to successfully tackle all economic issues.

“We like the club because it is historical. It has a long tradition, and, besides football, all the social issues that surround it. We’re convinced Espanyol has a great future.

“China closely follows Spanish football and with our arrival we will try to take advantage of all the resources to the best League in the open market. We’ll be an example for many Chinese companies.

“Of course, Espanyol will maintain its character. We will keep the same values, we don’t intend to change anything. Our company is made up of many others in and they all maintain their essence.

“For example, five years ago we bought a Korean company, SK, and we haven’t changed anything about it. We don’t want to modify anything but invest to improve.

“We negotiated for Espanyol six months ago and with our team we intend to help the group that manages the club to have a more efficient entity. We have full confidence in the current management.

“We’re not an interventionist group but we let professionals carry out their work in different areas.”
