Navas renewal ‘before 2016’

Real Madrid will close the renewal of Keylor Navas’ contract before the end of the year and the deal will recognise the goalkeeper’s new status.

Marca notes rumours Madrid were going to offer new terms to Navas after his move to Manchester United broke down on the final day of the transfer window, as part of David De Gea’s return to Spain.

It was suggested at the time that a new deal for Navas was almost by way of compensation for him missing out on a big payday at Old Trafford, a contract said to be worth €2.5m a year.

Marca reports this time, however, that Madrid will offer Navas terms based entirely on his increased value to the team after he made the No.1 spot his own following Iker Casillas’ summer exit to Porto and the failed De Gea pursuit.

No precise figure is mentioned but the report states Navas’ new contract will come close to the terms offered by United.

Navas moved to Santiago Bernabeu from Levante following an impressive showing for Costa Rica at the 2014 World Cup, signing a six-year contract.

Marca do note, though, that Madrid haven’t entirely given up on De Gea and he is still being considered, particularly after a good performance for Spain against Ukraine.
