Emery: One step closer…

Unai Emery claims Sevilla “have moved one step closer towards restoring our credibility on the pitch” after Saturday’s 5-0 demolition of Getafe.

Kevin Gameiro’s hat-trick, followed by two penalties from Ever Banega and Yevhen Konoplyanka, fired the Andalucians into the top half of La Liga after their third win in four games, and the Coach is confident that his side have turned a corner.

“We’ve moved one step closer towards restoring our credibility on the pitch,” he said after the game.

“They were three points which needed to stay at home [Sanchez Pizjuan].

“[On Konoplyanka] the idea was to familiarise him with our concepts, requirements and players.

“Now he’s developing an understanding with [Benoit] Tremoulinas down the left and is showing more aggression defensively.

“We need all our players to reach our competitive level, but I hope they all will be within a month. I like having 24 players to choose from.

“[Fernando Llorente] has been injured but will be a major player for us. Competition keeps out players like Juan Munoz and [Ciro] Immobile or stay.

“[On Gameiro], sometimes he scores and sometimes he doesn’t, but the important thing is that he gets into positions.

“[Our three penalties] were the result of the team getting into [Getafe’s] box and the chances which followed.”
