Sergio eyeing repeat performance

Sergio Gonzalez has demanded a repeat of last week’s win at Real Betis from his Espanyol players when they travel to Rayo Vallecano on Friday.

Los Periquitos moved back into the top half of La Liga after they ended successive defeats in Andalucia, and the Coach is looking to use the 3-1 win as a source of inspiration for his side’s trip to Vallecas, although he accepts it will not be easy.

“We’ll be closer to winning [if we play like we did against Rayo],” he said at a Press conference.

“Our objective is to maintain the momentum of last weekend and complete the match [against Rayo] with our heads held high, thinking that we’ve given everything.

“The idea is to win, but winning twice in a row away from home is difficult.

“[Paco Jemez] is very bold because he makes their teams play in a way that I really like, with the ball as the main attraction.

“People enjoy watching their games, and I’m glad that things are going well for them.

“Both teams run risks because we’re capable of creating many chances and so are they.

“It was very difficult to name my team this week, and certainly those who have been left out are entitled to think that I’ve been unfair. All the players have trained like animals.”

“[On Barcelona legend Johan Cruyff being diagnosed with lung cancer], Johan Cruyff is an important football person, an icon.

“It’s sad news and I hope everything goes well for him.”
