‘Las Palmas have to thank Herrera’

Juan Carlos Valeron is ready to work under new Las Palmas Coach Quique Setien but stressed the need to thank Paco Herrera for his efforts.

Herrera became the first Primera Coach to lose his job this season when earlier in the week he was replaced by ex-Lugo trainer Setien.

“It would be too soon [to comment on Setien’s methods] and a mistake [to compare him to Herrera],” Valeron said, AS reports.

“Everyone has their way of understanding the game. Today we had the first training session and gradually we will assimilate the concepts for the team to do what [Setien] wants.

“The relationship [with Herrera] was always very good and there is a lot of affection. We have to thank him for all he has done.

“We have to start winning and there’s no better way to get through a difficult time like this. There’s nothing but to get up as quickly as possible.

“We’ll talk on the pitch and play good games for wins, which is what helps.”
