Setien: Las Palmas ‘exciting challenge’

New Las Palmas Coach Quique Setien believes the job of replacing Paco Herrera is an ‘exciting challenge’ and one he couldn’t turn down.

Setien was earlier this week confirmed as the replacement for Herrera, who was sacked following the 4-0 defeat to Getafe which left the island side second bottom after eight games.

“After coaching Lugo I decided to go in search of other targets and received a call from Las Palmas,” Setien explained at his presentation, AS reports.

“Las Palmas is an historic and important club and it’s a step forward in my career. It was very hard to say no.

“I’m a football man and the opportunity the club gives me is a great responsibility. I hope to live up to it. Coaching Las Palmas is an exciting challenge.

“It’s a squad with a lot of possibilities. I hope to have the help of the players in the way I propose football, which is non-negotiable.”

Setien, the first new appointment of the season in the top flight, takes charge of his first game on Sunday as Villarreal visit Estadio Gran Canaria.
