Despite a Twitter campaign trying to get half-Dutch Marco Asensio to represent the Netherlands, no one from the Oranje has contacted the Espanyol winger.
AS reports a hashtag attempting to drum up support for an approach to Asensio, whose mother is Dutch, but the KNVB, the Dutch FA, haven’t reached out to the Spain Under-21 international, on loan at Cornella-El Prat from Real Madrid.
Asensio has yet to play for the full Spain side so would be eligible for the Netherlands if he did decide to switch allegiances, having played for Spain at every level from Under-16 except the senior side.
