Aritz Aduriz has signalled his intention to see out the remainder of his career with Athletic Bilbao by extending his contract until 2017.
The striker has begun the season in prolific form, scoring 11 goals in 14 appearances, and the new agreement will see him stay on at San Mames until he is 36.
Aduriz returned to Athletic in 2012 from Valencia and has hit the back of the net at least 18 times in each of his three seasons back in Bilbao.
However, he fired 26 – a personal best – in the previous campaign to qualify Los Leones for the Europa League and a further four in their 5-1 Supercopa triumph over Barcelona two months ago.
Despite his exploits, the 34-year-old has yet to add to his sole Spain cap, although Vicente del Bosque recently discussed the player’s chances of a recall.
